.Child K is a cute little one-year-old boy with hearing loss in both ears (moderate in one, severe in the other) whose left auricle (outer ear) is undeveloped. He has an outgoing, active personality, likes music and being cuddled. He also has a heart murmur; after an ultrasound, no action was recommended except for a recheck in a year.

***SPECIAL NOTE: MaryLee Lane’s son, Jeremy, works for a leading ENT doctor and whose speciality is ears shared Child K’s information with the doctor. As a result he requested tests from China which have been completed and sent to him. Narrow cut scans were done via an MRI and now Dr. Shaw in Colorado Springs, has evaluated the situation with this child.
Child K has no Right ear canal nor outer ear. His left ear is normal structurally and he should be able to hear perfectly through it. Everything in the inner ear on the right side is there and normally sized. All he needs to be able to hear on the right side is a “Baja” tube to be implanted when he is 2 years old. This implant cannot be done sooner as the skull is not well enough formed for the surgery to take place. The procedure would take 1.5 hours with recovery of 2 hours. With the Baja, he would be able to hear well. Around the age of 10-16 years, an adoptive family would want to have a prosthetic ear attached. Most insurance plans cover the “baja” implant for children….it is much more difficult to get insurance to cover it for adults.
According to the doctor, he is not deaf and once the “baja” is inserted, the worst he will have is a mild hearing loss along with the eventual need for a prosthetic ear.
Please help us to find a family for Child K! It would be wonderful but not necessary if the family were residing in Colorado so that Dr. Shaw, who has a real interest in this child, could follow/direct his case. We have the MRI’s and all of the notes that can be shared with interested families. In addition, Jeremy to talk with Dr. Shaw who has studied his case are available to speak with interested families should they so desire.

Two adorable little boys!

Boy 119B ? this 3-year-old boy is post-operative for congenital heart disease (VSD, PDA, PFO). Per a report that is six months old, he is cooperative with the staff, will babble when playing with toys, calls his mama, claps his chest when listening to mama (meaning his mother is in his heart) and likes to play with balls and toys that make sounds or music

Boy 119A ? this 2 ? -year-old boy has deformities of both lower legs as well as missing toes on one foot. He is handsome, obedient, fond of climbing up and down on his bedrails, loves to watch TV or play games with his favorite caretaker, likes music and playing with cars
